Welcome to the first ever cozy mystery book awards program. Cozy mystery writer Sally Dallas aptly writes that “cozy mystery writers have been providing their fans with entertaining escapism for nearly a century. Being a sub-genre of crime fiction, cozies were born from intuitive authors recognizing their readers hunger for puzzle-solving suspense, minus graphic violence. Each year thousands of cozies are uploaded to Amazon, proving that interest in the genre has stood the test of time.”

Sally is 100% right. However, there is no avenue for great cozy mysteries to get the recognition that they deserve, which is where we come in. We are the first company dedicated solely to rewarding and reviewing cozy mysteries. We believe strongly that it is time for this genre to be honored. There are over 1,000 different book award competitions, but none are dedicated exclusively to cozy mysteries. That all changes today!

  • We are honoring the best and brightest cozy mysteries 4 times a year. We are running a Spring Awards Contest, a Summer Awards Contest, an Autumn Awards Contest and a Winter Awards Contest.
  • Right now we are accepting applications for our Spring Contest. The deadline is Friday, June 16, 2023.

SelfPublishing.com says “the average time to write a book for most authors is 180 days, or 6 months. Usually, it takes authors anywhere from 4-8 months to complete a book.” That’s a lot of time. That’s a huge commitment to your craft. We believe that you deserve to get recognized for that effort if it results in a top-quality cozy mystery. This is where The Distinguished Cozy Mystery Awards Contest comes in. Why should you apply to get a book award? Award-winning book designer Glenna Collett explains the pros of getting a book award this way:

  • “An award can do wonders for your head! It can give you the mental boost you need just as you begin to wonder if the entire publishing venture has been worth the effort.”
  • “Whether you win an award or not, you will learn something about the value of your book.” In other words, it will make you an even better writer.
  • “People do take notice … even if they’ve never heard of those awards. Potential readers assume that the book was judged by competent professionals in the publishing world and was deemed by them to be one of the best.”

Expert book marketer Sarah Bolme says any credible book marketing plan “should include submissions for book awards. Winning a book award increases your visibility, expands your marketability, and solidifies your credibility.” Writing a book is just the first step. You need to keep your book, regardless of it’s a new release or it has been out for some time, fresh in the eyes of readers. Here’s why winning a book award, especially one tailored to your book’s genre, can be so powerful:

  • Book awards can get your book noticed by a whole new crowd of readers.
  • Book awards can keep your book top of mind in a very crowded market.
  • Book awards can be great marketing tools to help you increase sales.
